Nothing angers
regular people more than seeing a cop speeding down their street without his lights flashing, being above the law.
According to a
recent article about a couple in Atlanta, Georgia, who were sick of people speeding down their street and endangering their children; set up their own
radar gun with a camera to catch would be speeders and report them to the police. They
caught the biggest fish of them all speeding and it landed them in hot water.
When Officer Richard
Perrone sped through their neighborhood, they thought it would be a good opportunity to make an example of him. So, they reported him to his employers in the next county, the County Police. They pursued the issue to the point where they were
accused of stalking Officer
Perrone and ended up in court, fighting for their rights.
According to Lee
Sipple quoted from the article: “I was under the impression that I
wasn’t supposed to be scared of the police, but this officer…he’s trying to poke at me, trying to intimidate me, trying to harass me,” Lee said. “I live here, I can’t retreat, I can’t go no further back. I mean, what am I to do?”
The story has a happy ending, though. Richard
Perrone eventually dropped the charges and it was pursued no further.
For those that wish to set up their own speed checkpoints in the their neighborhood, I recommend the
Bushnell Speedster II. It's a great entry level
radar gun that is versatile and easy to use.
