Battle for a Radar Gun
Sheriff of the Jackson County, S. Mississippi, says that the problem of the countless speeders in their county is the result of ....
A Radar Gun. Or it's better to say its absence. The police department of the Jackson County simply doesn't have it. Drivers' speed goes unregulated, and so many residents are tired of cars and trucks flying by their houses at excessive speeds.
Sheriff said that the average speed is between 70 and 90 miles per hour. The drivers don't care, they go fast, but don't realize the consequences of their driving.
So, now some people are pushing state legislators for a solution. They are preparing resolutions for each of the civic organizations of Jackson County.
"We've got to do something. Radar Gun, is a scientific tool that's needed in detecting speed. We have DNA for rape and murder cases, we have fingerprints. This is scientific stuff. That's what a radar gun is. Let us have the scientific tool we need to save people's lives," Sheriff Byrd says.
For now, Lowndes County is the only county in Mississippi that has permission to use radar gun, including traffic radar gun or handheld police radar gun.
